Hello It is the WASP from the North reporting today from a very rainy Winston-Salem, NC. Today, I wanted to talk about some other cultural difference between the North and South. BBQ!! I love BBQ but in the North it is either Chicken or Ribs with bottled BBQ Sauce, down here it is a way of life. A good way of life, with the sauce usually handed down from generation to generation and it is pulled pork or beef and so good it waters in your mouth. My husband (who I will refer for now on as H-man) and I are going to the Lexington BBQ Festival on Saturday afternoon. Maybe we will see you there, I will most likely be wearing it on my chest because I am a slob when it comes to eating. I have to say this is one difference where the South wins hands down, I have not been to Kansas City, which I hear will give the South a run for its money in the BBQ department according to FOOD NETWORK.

I will get to another difference in a minute, I should let you know my line of work. I was up North a Wedding Coordinator/Event Specialist within a Resort, which entails, selling the property to the client, then getting all the details and working the day of to make sure the Bride is calm, happy and has no stress. Now, all I do is detail events that someone else sells to the client, my selling is very limited. When I call clients, up North I always felt I was bugging them and they were rushing me off the phone and did not want to give me details (NOT BRIDES), down here people actually ask me how my weekend went and how my day is going. It is so nice to work with people that are pleasant and give you respect. I am not saying everyone up North was like that but a big majority for me to notice. Brides are in their own category, I will discuss that in another post.

One more difference, driving... I understand down here people are not used to snow the way we are in the North but why when it is raining do people all of a sudden have no clue on how to drive? It is rain not snow, sleet or worse ice storms. While living in Charlotte we had no snow last year, I am waiting to see what this winter brings. Driving in snow is not that hard, but understandable if your not from the North, but rain? I really do not expect an answer, I am just putting it out in the universe for people to ponder.

Another fact about me, I have had many jobs, bartender, waitress, food captain, banquet captain, travel agent, retailer, cashier and sales. As you can see all of my jobs require customer service, my most rewarding was Wedding Coordinator, I did that for over 10 years, and brides are so happy and excited you want to make their day special.

I can not wait for you to dish on some brides. It'll like reading the Bridezilla blog right? You know I freaking love that show.

Since you asked, I am going to go with a little story on one of my infamous brides, who I will never forget..

By the way did you see the Gayzilla on the show? He was the worse I have ever seen, if I was his planner, I think I would of told him to stick it!!

Ok, my little story, along time ago (4 years), in the little town of Mystic, there was a beautiful mansion to have weddings. This bride from New York, comes in an falls in love with the property and wants her wedding there. My theory was because it is a fairytale come to life and for one day it is all about you, there is only 1 wedding a day at this mansion.

The bride and groom are fun, funky and very New York. They do mention they have a big drinking crowd, and were worried we would run out of booze, I assure them we have never run out of booze. Especially due to we have a restaurant associated with the Mansion and can take from them if need be.

Day of the wedding comes, it is absolutely beautiful, which is great due to the reception is under a tent. Staff is all there (everyone showed up shocker!), and about 5pm the wedding begins.

At 7pm, the bartenders inform me that we are out of Vodka, Beer and Rum and they have already made 3 runs to the restaurant. Come to find out they were not big drinkers, they were "RAGING ALOCOHLICS" , the brides father comes in and yells at me and says, "We are paying alot of money where is the booze? " the bride is right behind him in tears, I explain that everyone is bombed and the wedding has 3 more hours and no we are not serving anymore.

She started screaming and causing a scene at her wedding, by throwing herself on the floor like a 2 year old, and saying no one wants my day to go well. I finally lost it, and told her difference with big drinkers then raging alocholics and we are not losing out liquor license because her people can't stop drinking and have a good time, with the buzz they all have now. Then her father starts in with I will go buy booze and bring it back up here, I inform the buffon that if he does that I will have him arrested, then he gets in my face,so I ask him did I see your name on the checks paying for this wedding? I do not believe so, so get out of my face. I admit I am not a person who handles this situations well, I want everyone happy, but I felt threatening by a drunk 6'foot idiot..

Not good on my part, but I could not believe she was ruining her own wedding. Most of the wedding left after the bar shut down, about 9pm, I see most of them in the parking lot outside the guest rooms, they had taken all the Ice Carts around the property and put all their own booze in it and was wheeling it around the property.

The groom did apologize to me, he admitted they were out of control. The next morning we found shoes, clothes and the brides veil in the pond on property.

So, I have to wonder if they are still married or if she is in rehab.

The bad thing for me on weddings, is most of them you get attached to because for a year your their best friend and then you hear nothing.

I have a few more stories but those will have to wait.
